JANUARY:(14th–15th) Demos at Polydor with Kip. (28th–30th) Demos of enough new songs to fill a second album cut at Polydor Studios.

FEBUARY: (11th / 12th) Kips final audition (16th) First proper rehersal with Kip as lead singer. Three more weeks of rehearsal follow.

MARCH: (4th) Photo session with L.F.l. (12th) First gig with Kip, as special guests of The Vapors at Sussex University, Brighton. (13th) Birmingham University, with The Vapors.

APRIL: Recorded ‘One More Minute’ and ‘Who's Killing Who’, Britannia Row Studios, lslington, London, produced by David Batchelor. (6th / 7th Brit row, (9th) Roundhouse studios, (12th) Brit row (12th) Football match against The Clash at Regents Park – The Chords win 5-4. (14th) Trident studios, (15 th) Mixed at Air Studios.(23rd) Interview with Tony Fletcher for The Face. (29th) Photo session for The Face.

MAY: (8th) Release of ‘One More Minute’. (12th) Single new entry at No. 87. BRMB chart – the highest position for this single; Radio Hallam interview at Polydor. (19th) single down to 95. (21st) Demos, Polygram Studios.
JUNE: (1–12th) Recorded ‘Turn Away Again’ at Wessex Studios. Producer David Batchelor and engineer Jeremy Green. (28th) Live Radio Medway interview. Vocals and guitar re-recorded. (30th) 100 Club, London supported by Apocalypse.

JULY: (1st) Electric Stadium at The Greyhound, Chadwell Heath, Essex. (2nd) Central Hotel, Gillingham. (12th) 5 a-side football tournament with fanzine at Hyde Park . Chords lose to Making Time fanzine. (17th) Final mixes of ‘Turn Away Again’ completed at Polydor Studios, assisted by Peter Wilson. (21st) Edit of final mixes. (22nd) edit of 'dub' mixes.
AUGUST: (14th) Release of ‘Turn Away Again’. (18th) Single at 162 BRMB chart. (25th) Single at No.139, BMRB chart. (28th) Corn Exchange, Ipswich. (29th) Civic Hall, Orpington. (31st) Corn Exchange, Brighton, supported by 007, Long Tall Shorty and The Distant Echo.

SEPTEMBER: (1st) The Marquee, Soho, London. (2nd) The Marquee, supported by At Gunpoint; last-ever gig (the 123rd); single down to No 177. (11th) All four members meet at Chris Pope's house and decide to terminate The Chords
