JANUARY: Via a New Musical Express advert Chris Pope joins cousins Billy Hassett and Martin Mason and original drummer Paul Halpin, later to become band's Road Manager. At this point the band are called 'The Action'. Buddy is in a punk band called 'The Meat".

MARCH: School gig. Gog as St. Clementines.

AUGUST: Unsuccessful demo tape for the film Quadrophenia. The band take on the name ‘The Chords’.

SEPTEMBER / DECEMBER: Couple of gigs, Green Man Plumstead. Power failure at the Waterloo Action Centre results in candlelit gig. Deptford Arms, supporting the Monitors. Thomas A Beckett - orginals include Dreamdolls, Don't Go Back, It's No Use, Somethings Missing and the never to be recorded I Wanna Be.
